Acupuncture and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder can be characterized as a cluster of symptoms that develop after a traumatic event. Commonly seen in veterans and survivors of abuse or disasters, it can cause flashbacks, persistent nightmares, rage, anxiety and depression. Untreated, it can severely limit a person’s ability to function.

Veterans in particular often avoid treatment for PTSD because of the stigma of admitting a mental health problem, or because they believe mental health counseling won’t work for them.

Acupuncture does not take the place of mental health counseling, but it can be an excellent complementary therapy. Because it helps the body regulate neurotransmitters, it can moderate many of the symptoms associated with PTSD and help people connect with their own inner resources.

I would be happy to talk with you or someone you know who has PTSD.
